Hi, I am unable to launch the embedded java applicatons from the web interface on a lakeshore 336. Error message shown below. I gather from another post that this may be a Java version issue. Can you please share the workaround?
Thanks.

I have forwarded your information to our software engineer to see if he can determine what is wrong. I will get back to you as soon as I have his response.

Can you confirm if you are using Internet Explorer or some other browser?

In any case it does not run in the browser, but downloads a .jnlp which the java run-time fails to run, with the message shown above.

I had our software engineer look at the data you provided and he said that the problem seems to be that the base url (i.e. the ip address or hostname of the instrument) is blank. I feel like I’ve seen this before, but I’m not sure what the root cause of it would be. The firmware should inject this url into the .jnlp file each time the ethernet module is reconfigured. I’d be curious to know what his IP address is, and if it has a hostname.
He is on some pretty old ethernet firmware (v2.3, and the latest is v2.7). I don’t know if upgrading would fix the issue or not, but I would recommended it. At the very least upgrading firmware may prevent him from hitting other issues, such as one of the Java security issues, after working around or fixing this issue.
A potential workaround would be to manually edit the .jnlp file and add the IP address into each url that currently starts with “http:///”. The IP address would be inserted after the first two slashes, and before the third, like “http://192.168.0.12/...” Opening the .jnlp file after making this change should launch the application.
Based on his comments, I believe it would be best to upgrade the Ethernet Firmware and reconfigure the Ethernet addresses. If yu send an email to support@lakeshore.com, I will be happy to provide a detailed procedure that ensure the Ethernet Firmware can be upgraded.

Hi, This is the configuration reported on the embedded web page:
Instrument Model 336 Description LSCI 336 Temp Controller 336AB9F Instrument Serial Number 336AB9F Option Serial Number 3062A72 Instrument Firmware Rev 2.9 Ethernet Firmware Rev 2.3 Hostname 10.0.7.244 IP Address 10.0.7.244 MAC Address 00:40:9D:75:EA:45
Under 'Ethernet configuration' DHCP is selected, the preferred hostname is LSCI-336, and the preferred domain is blank.
FYI there are 2 other LS336 controllers on the same subnet.
