I have a LakeShore 336 temperature controller. Analog outputs 3 and 4 cannot power heaters directly so I'm planning to use an external power supply to use outputs 3 and 4 to power heaters. I want to use close loop PID in order to control the heaters based on temperature sensor inputs. However, the manual in confusing me because:
At page 10, section 1.3.4.2, it mentions that outputs 3 and 4 have the following modes: 1. Close loop PID 2. PID Zones 3. Warm up heater mode 4. Manual output 5. Monitor out
The manual at page 70 mentions the modes to be: 1. Open loop 2. Warm up supply (which I assume is the same as warm up heater mode) 3. Monitor out
The question is, can I use outputs 3 and 4 to control heaters in a close-loop PID mode using an external power supply (unipolar)?

Yes, Outputs 3 & 4 can be configured for Closed Loop PID. If for some reason, you do not see this as a selection, you will need to update the firmware as this feature was added after the initial release of the Model 336.
I will notify the documentation department that page 70 needs to be updated to reflect this capability.

Thank you Jeff M for your reply. One thing I forgot to mention is that I do not currently have access to the lab where the LakeShore is stored due to Covid restrictions; this is why I wasn't able to figure this out but your answer helps me prepare for when I finally go into the lab. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need a firmware update; it's an older unit.
