I've sent an email through your technical support page but I don't know how often that is checked so I thought I'd make a post here as well.
The RS232 serial port on my Model 330 appears to be unresponsive to whatever input I give it. I have the serial parameters set according to the manual (1200 baud, 7 data, 1 stop, odd parity, CR+LF endings).
I am using Tera Term to send serial data through a USB to RS232 adapter, and from there I chopped off the end of an RJ11 cable, crimped pins onto the ends of the wires, and stuck them into the DB9 on the adapter. I have confirmed with a multimeter that the wire is not the problem; it is making electrical connection to the RS232 receive and transmit pins on the LT1080 receiver/driver chip on the inside of the machine through the RJ11 port.
With an oscilloscope, I confirm that the TX and RX lines are both pulled to ~-7V when idle, and when typing in the terminal the TX line (computer to device) transmits at ~+5V. However, there is never a response from the machine. Following the manual, I type the test commands "CUNI K" and "CUNI?", but no response.
I have tried changing the baud rate on the device, and changing various serial parameters on the computer just to see if somehow the manual was wrong and it really takes 8 data bits or something, but to no avail. I have tried sending commands when the machine is in "Local" mode and in "Remote" mode.
I am looking for further debugging steps I can take to track down the problem. I didn't see any obvious signs of damage inside the machine, and since the receiver/driver chip is still outputting -7V on the TX line (device to computer) I assume it is still in working condition.
